A conventional thermocouple is a type of temperature sensor widely used in industry and domestic applications to measure temperature. It consists of two wires of different metals, usually made of metal alloys such as chromel and alumel, which are joined at one end to form a measuring junction.
The operating principle of a conventional thermocouple is based on the Seebeck effect, which is the generation of an electrical potential difference when two different metals are in contact and subjected to a temperature difference. This potential difference is directly proportional to the temperature difference between the measuring junction and the reference junction.
Conventional thermocouples are known for their wide operating temperature range, being able to measure temperatures ranging from -200°C to over 1700°C. They are resistant to thermal shock and have a rapid response to temperature changes.
