A rectangular sensor is a type of proximity or object detection sensor with a rectangular physical shape, used in various industrial applications to detect the presence, absence, or position of objects in a given space. The rectangular shape facilitates its mounting on machines and flat surfaces, making it ideal for use in industrial environments where space is limited or where firm attachment is required.
In a production line, a rectangular inductive sensor can be mounted next to a conveyor belt to detect when a metallic part passes. When the part is detected, the sensor sends a signal to the control system, which can, for example, activate a robotic arm to pick up the part or start another stage of the process.
