Double row self-aligning ball bearing without seals
A self-aligning bearing, also known as a self-aligning roller bearing, is a type of bearing used in applications involving heavy radial loads and moderate axial loads. It is designed to accommodate misalignment between the shaft and the bearing housing, making it ideal for situations where precise alignment is not possible or difficult to maintain.
The 222/2208 FAG belongs to the group of double-row self-aligning ball bearings. This type of unsealed bearing is a double-row bearing. Both rows are housed in a spherical raceway in the outer ring. This construction allows the bearing to be self-aligning. This means that any misalignment of the shaft relative to the bearing housing will not negatively affect performance.
These characteristics make the FAG 222/2208 highly suitable for applications where substantial misalignments or shaft deflections may occur. In addition, self-aligning bearings have the lowest friction of all rolling element bearings. Even at higher speeds, friction heat is limited. These bearings are capable of supporting high radial loads. To a lesser extent, they can be axially loaded in both directions.
