The lamp is made of a transparent tubular glass bulb containing a tungsten filament and sodium gas. When the lamp is turned on, the filament is heated to incandescence, emitting light. The sodium gas is also heated and emits light, giving the lamp its neutral color.
The lamp has a lifespan of approximately 24,000 hours. It is a high-performance lamp with an efficiency of about 100 lumens per watt.
