Its main function is to protect electrical circuits, equipment, and people from damage caused by abnormal electrical conditions.
Overload Protection:
In situations where the electric current exceeds the rated value for an extended period, the circuit breaker trips to prevent wires and equipment from being damaged by the heat generated by the overload.
Short-Circuit Protection:
When a short circuit occurs, the circuit breaker trips quickly to interrupt the current flow, preventing more serious damage, such as fires.
Thermal Protection:
When there is an overload, the increased current causes a bimetallic strip in the circuit breaker to heat up and deform, tripping the circuit.
Magnetic Protection:
In case of a short circuit, a magnetic field is instantly generated, activating a mechanism that interrupts the circuit almost immediately.
Differential Protection:
In a differential circuit breaker, a current transformer detects differences between the current entering and leaving the circuit, tripping it if there is a leakage.
