The circuit breaker operates through two mechanisms: a thermal mechanism and a magnetic mechanism. The thermal mechanism is activated when the current flowing through the circuit breaker is excessive for a prolonged period. The magnetic mechanism is activated when the current flowing through the circuit breaker is excessively high in a short period.
