A bipolar circuit breaker is an electrical protection device used to interrupt the flow of electric current in an electrical circuit, controlling the power supply to two conductors (phases) simultaneously. The word "bipolar" refers to the fact that the circuit breaker has two poles or terminals, allowing it to interrupt the electric current on both sides of the circuit.
Bipolar circuit breakers are commonly used in residential and commercial electrical installations to protect electrical devices such as outlets, light fixtures, and equipment by shutting off power when an overload or short circuit occurs. They are designed to ensure the safety of electrical installations and prevent damage to connected devices.
When excessive electrical current flows through a circuit protected by a bipolar circuit breaker, the internal mechanisms of the circuit breaker detect this abnormal condition and open the internal contacts. This interrupts the flow of electricity and shuts down the circuit, preventing damage to devices and reducing the risk of electrical fires.
Compact Home SH200T miniature circuit breakers are current limiting. They have two different tripping mechanisms, the delayed thermal tripping mechanism for overload protection and the electromechanical tripping mechanism for short-circuit protection. They are available in different characteristics (B, C), configurations (1P, 1P+N, 2P, 3P, 3P+N, 4P), breaking capacities (up to 3 kA at 230/400 V AC) and rated currents (up to 40 A). All MCBs in the SH200T product line comply with IEC/EN 60898-1, allowing use in residential applications.
