The NI PXI Slot Blocker improves system cooling in PXI chassis by redirecting airflow from
empty slots into slots containing PXI modules. This guide describes how to use the NI PXI slot
blocker most effectively.
The PXI slot blocker is specially designed to occupy and provide a protective cover for empty slots in controllers and chassis to maintain system quality and performance. The PXI slot blocker is compatible with PXI, CompactRIO, and CompactDAQ chassis and control parts. The PXI slot blocker includes slot covers, blank or non-functional models, and panels to serve as fillers.
The PXI slot blocker has an important functional purpose. The PXI slot blocker increases performance by increasing overall system cooling. Airflow within the PXI chassis is redirected from empty slots to slots occupied by the PXI module.
The PXI slot blocker should be used with the following PXI chassis alternatives: NI PXI-104x Series, NI PXI-1050, NI PXI-1052, NI PXIe-106x Series, and NI PXI-103x Series. The PXI chassis alternatives for which the PXI slot blocker is recommended are those with fans located at the rear or with fans positioned below the board compartment. The PXI slot blocker is not recommended for use with NI PXI chassis options where the chassis is a dual-stack configuration.
To configure the PXI slot blocker, assemble the following components: a compatible PXI or PXI express chassis, a system controller corresponding to the PXI and PXI express chassis, peripheral modules for the PXI or PXI express, the PXI slot blocker, and PXI filler panels. Insert the NI PXI Slot Blocker into all empty slots of the PXI chassis. In all slots containing an NI PXI slot blocker, install a filler panel.
The PXI slot blocker leverages its designed compatibility with PXI and PXI Express configurations to improve the reliability and lifespan of the PXI system by enhancing the system's ability to actively cool itself. During use, the PXI slot blocker moves air from open slots to filled slots. The PXI slot blocker should be used in applications where enhanced cooling is required.
