A buscoupler, also known as a fieldbus coupler, is a device used in automation and control systems to establish communication between different devices or subsystems operating on different fieldbuses. These couplers play a crucial role in integrating distributed systems, allowing data exchange between different communication protocols in an industrial network.
This fieldbus coupler connects the WAGO I/O System as a slave to the MODBUS or fieldbus.
The fieldbus coupler detects all connected I/O modules and creates a local process image. This process image can include a mixed arrangement of analog (word-by-word transfer) and digital (bit-by-bit transfer) modules.
Data from analog modules is stored in the process image, automatically created according to the order in which the modules are connected to the coupler. The bits from digital modules are sent byte-by-byte and appended to the analog data. If the amount of digital I/O information exceeds eight bits, the coupler automatically starts with a new byte.
